ALEX ALEXANDER Hi! I’m registered Nurse Alex Alexander and I am incredibly excited to have launched this Nurse Led Clinic and Training Academy! I qualified as a nurse after completing a degree in education and begun working for the NHS. My background and expertise lie in medical health and intensive care in Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. I’ve always been fascinated with the skin health and that’s how I got into the aesthetics industry. After winning awards for my work my status has risen to a point I never imagined. I think the reason behind my success is my passion for what I do. All of my clients and students know that I am always available for advice and assurance no matter what. With that I’ve made contact with some amazing people during my career. The most recent to date I have found myself on the board of an amazing charity that aims to raise awareness of emotional health rather than dismissing feelings which can lead to suicide. I am very proud and honoured to be a comitee member and look forward to raising funds for this cause. I have a very exciting year ahead of me with plans to open a new clinic and progress my training opportunities for students. My aim is to improve confidence in people as it’s something I’ve always struggled with in my appearance. We need to start appreciating ourselves for who we are inside and out. With a friendly environment and a confidence boost anything is possible
LATIFAH STEWART, owner of creative makeup agency,Indigo Moon Artists. I built the company on my own in 2018 wanting to bring something fun and exciting to events and pitched to the hospitality industry unique ways of getting their clientele together for photo opportunities to help organically build their social media. We started with glitter and encouraged customers to feel a part of a tribe by getting their glitter done in groups, it deemed incredibly popular and we helped clubs get tagged in photos of people living their best lives. I wanted to create a team of girls that were not just fun but positive! I wanted to create an infections positive energy that people found easy to approach and felt good vibes from. All the girls on our team have been vetted by myself, I always believed there are special people in the arts that are exuberant and make people happy. I've been described myself as quite a colourful person with a lot of energy so I wanted to build a team that translated that. I personally came from quite a poor background and I always believed laughter was the best medicine and it's got me through some incredibly dark times, I've always treated people with compassion and respect because honestly, know one knows what's going on in peoples lives behind closed doors so doing a job giving the feel good factor to people is my favourite thing about what we do. As for my artists, once I found these type of people I invested in them, providing group artist training and developing their skills in makeup up artistry and providing a sense of family. We have about 17 artists on the team and a lot are original members. Some who never did makeup before but have been taught festival makeup such as glitter and hair festival hair styling and never turned back. They are all beautifully unique loyal people and we really are a family. As I grew up always looking to find my own opportunity and experiencing quite a traumatic childhood I got to a point with Indigo Moon where I decided I wanted to pass that opportunity on to a younger generation. In 2020 I work with a school now called Reddish Vale which is a school in Greater Manchester that is renowned for high risk teenager due poor family environments. The children are typically labelled troublesome, angry and unfocused. I believe that children need a creative outlet to help them process emotion and find something they feel a part of and proud of. I teamed up with their head of year 9 to come in and provided a 6 week course with their most volatile to help them get their focus back ready for GCSEs. We had a group of 16 of mixed sex's who were interested in learning creative makeup. I designed a creative makeup course and the children were super engaged, the idea being if they did well all week they were allowed to attend. I was approached by the head teacher who told me he can't believe the turn around of the children and how they were that excited to attend the classes it had a huge positive impact on their determination at school. At the end of the 6 weeks we created them a portfolio each with photos of work along with their theory and I wrote them a reference to help them with college applications in the future. Over all it was such a rewarding experience and some thing we plan to maintain. Now moving forward and thankfully surviving lockdown we are as energised as ever and excited to bring new every, colour and positivity to new clients across the UK and Ibiza !

NADINE HART AL MUGAIRY I was diagnosed with Triple Negative breast cancer on 19th December 2018, following a routine mammogram. Following further tests it was decided that I needed a full mastectomy as it was considered a bad boob, as there was precancerous cells all over it. I had the mastectomy on 15th January 2019, and luckily my lymph nodes were clear. They had caught it early. I then started chemotherapy late February 2019 and finished chemo on 5th August 2019. It was tough, the chemo made me quite poorly, but it was doable and I had to keep my mind on the end game, it was saving my life. I wanted a 2nd mastectomy, so I could have double reconstruction so I was matching and also for risk reducing purposes. But I had to go through psychology assessment first, which recommended they take my other breast off for my peace of mind. In November 2020 I then had a second mastectomy with immediate reconstruction, which unfortunately failed as my body rejected the implant, so that had to be removed a month later in December 2020. So I’m now living flat, and although it’s not perfect, I’m happy as I’m balanced and can wear small prostheses when I want; and more importantly I’m still here to tell the tale . I shared my journey on facebook to help others facing the same dilemna and am now looking forward to starting new opportunities in business
TRACY MCMAHON, owner of Buddha Therapies, Buddha Academies After 10 years in the retail industry, I was on holiday with my family and friends, and went the Hilton 7 Spa in Portugal, I fell deeply in love with the atmosphere and realized how important well-being is, it sparked a passion inside of me, I told my friend I was gong to college when I returned home from holiday, and was going to start a Holistic course, and open up my own business called Buddha Therapies – this opened up a huge door for me personally, there was lots of changes and sacrifices, but - I DID IT !!! From an early age I have always felt driven to “help yourself”, I was always very independent and always tried push forward even if I was hurt, physically or emotionally, even when I felt abandoned, alone, or even “not fitting in” to school life, resilience can help you find yourself. As a child I used to dream I could fly, and I just remember it was so easy, and that twirling my hand around an injury, on friends, or myself could “heal” it, not realising it was just energy. As you grow you can loose your way, either by moving away from your path, because of lack of confidence, around the wrong people or just “stuck in a rut”, or simply firstly learning lessons, which is not a bad thing. You’re always learning new skills – If you think you know everything, you know nothing, were here to learn and love We deliver our courses to students all over the UK and Ireland. I have just simply tried to always focus on service, my leadership at Buddha Therapies and Buddha Therapies Academy is completely based on its service. To provide health, well-being and compassion to the clients, students, staff and to myself. This comes in so many ways. I study, research, and learn to help them give the best they can give and to help empower them through compassionate service, to take control of their own health and to awaken the healing power inside them. Integrating the best of modern medical science and ancient eastern healing methods, we promote well-being on an emotional, spiritual, and physical level.
CLAIRE HICKMAN Claire Hickman, founder of Where Angels Tread, lives with her beautiful family in the heart of Shropshire. Having suffered the loss of her baby boy years ago, Claire aims to bring other bereaved parents the peace they deserve with her memorial art business. For Claire though, the process is equally as important as the finished piece. She says "Through each commission, I can truly connect with other grieving parents, to share their story, to offer empathy and an open ear. We laugh together, cry together and I know that what Where Angels Tread offers is more than art, its a piece of heaven in their homes, and it means so much to me." Claire’s kind heart and support for not only her customers but friends and family makes her deserving of this award, she hopes by opening up about her pain it eases that of others.
BEN KOBAo A few years ago I was living in a tent in a carpark with a needle hanging out of my arm. Hopelessly and utterly addicted to smack and crack. Somehow I managed to acquire myself a fishing rod and began to go every day. Through fishing I found recovery. Fishing immediately gave me something to focus my energy on and I have never looked back,..Through despair and determination to turn his life around, Ben started the ‘Wirral Sea Angling Academy.’ Word of Ben’s project got around and other people addicted to drugs started asking him to take them sea-fishing and teach them how to do it. He helps all kinds of people go sea-fishing – veterans, disabled people, those with mental health problems, and people who just wanted to try it out. The Wirral Sea Angling Academy is a not-for-profit organisation and since starting it, Ben has held around 300 trips with over 200 people taking part. This is why I do what I do. I love it. I It promotes well being and recovery through the guise of sea fishing. I work with a wide range of folks, people in recovery from substance abuse, people with mental health problems, the disabled, kids, veterans or just about anyone who wants to try sea fishing. I stay positive because I am never, ever going to return to the hell I was in. Positivity is the only way!!! I run Wirral Sea Angling Academy, a not for profit organisation that promotes well being and recovery
ALICE MANLEY Lots of things keep me focused, I didn’t grow up with a very easy life I got bullied a lot and was in foster care when I was a child. I pushed through all of that am as a 27 year old woman I look back at my 12 year old self and the things I went through and the trauma I saw and it makes me realise that if I get can through that I am unstoppable. My focus is always around never giving up no matter how sad or stressed I get or how difficult a task can become I truly believe there’s nothing that a person can’t do if they really want it. 2. I’m not entirely sure why I inspire people to be nominated for this award is a surprise to me. Maybe it is my sense of not giving up, I work with a lot of people in the public and meet a lot of people from many walks of life and every single person I try to aim leaves my presence a little bit happier than they entered it. People don’t appreciate themselves enough and I feel that my job of my life on this earth is to make people feel good again, about themselves, about their lives and about their own abilities Mc 3. I’m from a town in wales originally and moved to Liverpool in 2016 when I was a newly qualified nurse. Since then I’ve sprouted my wings from Aesthetics, to being a personal trainer to being a pole fitness instructor and also I’m now currently working in performing. I don’t really let things stop me if I want to do something I’ll go for it. But things don’t come easy I suffer with anxiety that I have daily and used to experience really bad panic attacks due to a traumatic incident I suffered a couple of years ago, now I’ve managed to overcome them mainly I just try an combat my anxiety on the daily. I work hard and try keep myself busy. I feel blessed to be self employed and have the flexibility of life I do. I wouldn’t change it for the world
CLAIRE JUSTICE Tenyears ago I’d have shied away from anything like this from the fear of being too embarrassed. There’s still an element of that that still exists but what has changed is the fact that I’m not afraid to face my fears anymore. Granted sometimes it takes encouragement from family and some of the amazing friends I have and am so grateful for. But I’ve made the changes and I’ve overcome challenges to get there. Let me tell you about that. At the young vulnerable age of 19 I suffered from bulimia due to feeling vulnerable in relationships and feeling the need to fit. I was forced to face this head on as the alternative was only a disaster. I got married, had a wonderful wedding and had a family. My son Daniel is my life. Everything I have done has been to ensure he could have everything he needed. Then I suffered a huge blow the week before my birthday and was diagnosed with Stage 3C breast cancer at the age of 36 in 2011. My fear instantly was how on earth am I going to tell my son. He was 7. God children of that age truly are inspiring and that’s what spurred me to face things head on. I went through 6 months of chemotherapy, a mastectomy, 3 weeks of radiotherapy and a further 6 months of chemotherapy. The journey wasn’t over though as I needed to be well and fit enough to have a reconstruction. I went for a 2 for 1 option , a tummy tuck to create a new breast. I was coming up to 40, why not. A diep flap takes 3 different specialist consultants and an 8.5hr operation. So I decided to set myself a challenge to get fit so 4 months after 18 months of harrowing treatment I signed up for the Great North Swim and completed it in that summer after 4 months hard training in June of 2013 It was a life changer. A truly spiritual experience. I learnt that the most important thing in life is to enjoy the present moment and be grateful for that. I spent a number of years enjoying life but came to realise what I was actually capable of. So I decided to go back to university and do my Non Medical Prescribing course. Wow! Brain fog during chemotherapy was tough but this was on another level. After my years in school being told I would need special support I smashed my exams out the park with 100% and 98%. Who knew I was capable of that. So I set myself another challenge and began my Aesthetics training. I am passionate about ensuring people are safe and treated safely and as a nurse that’s my duty. 3 months later my business JUST Aesthetics was born and I’ve not looked back. It’s my happy place as all my clients who come to me walk out with a new fresh spring in their step feeling better about themselves.
WILL KILDARE, owner of the Star Swimming Academy I have taught hundreds of people to swim and given them confidence in the water. There are many achievements to date, but it would be very unfair not to mention being married to Claire, she is my rock, soul mate and supports me in everything I do and then there is my beautiful daughter Heidi, together they motivate and inspire me to do my utmost best! I am also very proud to have a team of fantastic and inspiring individuals that has made the Star Swimming Academy what it is today, the best Learn to Swim School in Merseyside. In a highly competitive area like a learn to swim school you need the best people around you and I can honestly say I have them, most of the team I have been with me since I started the Academy in 2005 and collectively they have created an environment for children and adults to learn to swim in a fun, safe way and progress in life with confidence. Additionally, I’m extremely proud to remain friends with all our swimmers past and present and we have many ex-students who now work within our academy, so we have taught the children to swim, given them a career and now they are teaching the next generation of students

RAJ SHARMA After graduating with a Bsc (hons) in Applied Chemistry. 2:1. I struggled to find work for over a year. ( everywhere kept saying no experience sorry no job). This was depressing and I couldn’t see my life going anywhere. I then offered a company three months free where I was only getting my bus fare home. This was back in 2003. After three months free work, I got six months temporary then permanent, only to be made redundant in the same year. What I did gain was a lot of experience. Another company took me on straight away as I was now experience, and I worked in this chemical industry till 2011 ( when I was expecting my first child) I then went for a complete career change and brought a French creperie on the Albert Dock. Which was successful until the landlord was not into independent companies and I had to leave the premises in 2016. Lost again I worked for a wholesale company delivering food to restaurants for a year, after finding my feet back into management and then finally getting back to business with Love Shakes N Cakes. If I was stubborn and did not go for the three months free work (bus fare home) I’m not sure what my journey would of been. I would like to say that in my case experience before money is what got me to where I’m now. I’m now a proud father of three with a family business. A lovely wife and my Mother. The journey has been tough but when I look back I smile to see how far I have come. From only getting my bus fare home, I know drive around in a BMW.

ASHLEY GREGGANS, owner of Elegance Aesthetics and Pin Ups Hair Salon Hello, my name is, Ashley Greggans I was the winner of the 2019 respect award I won this award because of my dedication and commitment to my business. I left my full-time NHS job to pursue my lifetime goal of becoming a cosmetic nurse, working three jobs to finance my education. Since the 2019 awards, the pandemic really affect my business and I had to shut my clinic down. I was finically crushed and really deflated after everything I had worked so hard for to be taken away from me. I knew I had to divert my business to survive, I created lock-down facial survival kits with the spare stock I had leftover in the clinic which sold well using social media. This inspired me to work with a biosciences lab to create my own skincare range Cosmetology with Elegance I launched it in April, and it has been successful and finically saved my business and my passion. I also enrolled and qualified in VCTC NVQ level 3 teaching and education I opened EA training recently and taught my first student. I love my job It's my passion And to be nominated for all achievements is everything!
ROSS GRIFFITHS Is simply the most spectacular person I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. He is my fairy godmother. He brings magic and laughter and joy. He lights up a room with his smile. His creativity and passion for fashion are what sets him apart. He can turn a piece of fabric into a vogue worthy outfit. He has worked his fingers to the bone and designed showstoppers pieces. He is simply the kind of person the world needs more of and I'm lucky because I get to call him my friend.
ZACHAERY WILMER Clapforclarky started off as a social media campaign, in organising a minutes applause at Anfield, during Liverpools Champions League clash with RedBull Salzburg, on 2nd October 2019. The sustained applause on the 21st minute, was to show a mark of respect to Liverpool fan, Zacharys foster brother, Clarky…who, on the 10th September 2019, was tragically involved in a road traffic accident, when his work van collided with a crop sprayer, killing him instantly. He was just 21 years old. Clarky left behind his three month old son, his girlfriend, his foster family and all his teammates from North Wirral Saints Football Club, where he was the goalkeeper. After achieving the applause, Zachary felt that he should continue to use the social media account of Clapforclarky, to help build a sports group, where he would encourage community inclusion in grassroots football. He has also organised running events, and his aim for the future is to continUe to encourage and motivate people to participate in physical activity, to help improve their mental health, and to also support anyone going thru bereavement, anxiety, and depression. Zachary has recently completed several courses in achieving qualifications to coach football now in the idea and hope that he can help motivate and inspire other younger generations to take up football and help transform their lives.
RICHARD GAIR Occupation: Artist, designer and founder of GoGairy Hand Painted Leathers. I came through a very difficult time with my kidney and pancreas transplant and mental mental health. And staying positive when the whole world seemed to be against me. What's your proudest achievement? Getting GoGairy Hand Painted Leathers off the ground and being able to employ some incredibly talented artists who are all struggling in their own way. The fact that so much creative talent is literally going to waste is a crime. I would like to see more of these wonderful creative minds doing what they love to do and, in the process, earn a living and make the world a more beautiful place. I’ve tried to start the ball rolling in a small way and hope to be part of something bigger. How do you inspire others? It breaks my heart when I hear that kids are leaving creative courses from college and university, only to find work in a dead end low paid job. I believe this is the foundation for many creative people suffering from problems with their mental health. By our very nature, creatives are sensitive to negativity and if symptoms are noticed, action needs to be taken. It’s been very difficult to be patient when you are told you have a life-threatening illness. That was the cherry on top of the illnesses, the depression and caring for my dad and dealing with his depression and his self-medication. I look after and care for my disabled uncle with learning disabilities. I try to look at the good things that could happen in the future rather than dwell on the crap that’s going on right now. It can be quite difficult. I locked myself away for over twenty years, not physically but into my own world. I was given a new hope and the chance of a new start after my life saving transplant. A special thank you to the perfect human being and his family who donated his kidney and pancreas after his death so that I could carry on. Much of this new life and venture is for him! How do you keep focused? The gratitude I have for the help and support I have received and continue to receive is like a drug. Knowing that people really do care is a beautiful feeling. After going through twenty something years of thinking nobody cared or loved me and that people even hated me for no reason, this new feeling is so empowering and gives me the drive to do the same for others and help people in pain realize that they are not alone, even when all the evidence around them supports the opposite. Difficult and sometimes nearly impossible but if you can somehow muster the strength which is in us all, you can accomplish almost anything!

What is your proudest achievement? It will always be our Learning Centre. This is because seeing the hard work and dedication from our students really does give a sense of achievement. When our students show this, they get excited and want to showcase their skills, being able to help our students feel this way is a really big achievement for all at StedyChefs Learning Centre and we love to watch their confidence grow. What is your greatest attribute? My dedication and commitment. This can be shown by how far our Learning Centre has grown in the past 12 months - each step giving more opportunities and experiences for all involved. I have inspired others as our students regularly get rewarded with day trips. There has been a few occasions when we have had amazingly positive feedback about our students, how professional yet happy they are. A lot of the parents and carers have also told us about the difference in students while they're at home, now helping out with bigger jobs and tougher tasks than they initially would have.

SUZY ORR I try and lead by example, almost 6 years ago I founded Unique Ladies Business Network, this was done after a 30 years career in IT and Telecoms, which was very male dominated and I felt that women needed a platform to network. 6 years later I have franchised and have 16 franchises (I still run 3 of them) and we’re still growing. During this time, the lives these groups have touched and influenced, are many. Giving like-minded ladies the opportunity to step out of their comfort zone, and grow, has no doubt inspired many of them. I know it’s made a life changing difference to many. My greatest challenge was my partner disappearing when our daughter was just 8 weeks old! It was a shock and he’s never returned. I overcame it by having a positive attitude and a great work ethic. I knuckled down and worked so hard to create the best life possible for me and my baby girl. My daughter is now 24 and beautiful both inside and out

GEORGINA TANG, Founder and Creative Director of Yours Naturally Naturally Yours My son who has complex medical & educational needs and almost died on many occasions but he is standing tall and enjoying life to the fullest. I was told that he would never reach his first birthday by his consultant but miracles happen because he is looking forward to celebrate his 15th birthday next week. They called him the “medical miracle”, as he no longer has the deadliest types of seizures. I nursed him during the first three years of his life because my son had a tendency to stop breathing without any warnings, even while he was sleeping, just to keep me on my toes! Therefore, I had to stay up to watch over him which went on for a long time. He still has a few long term life threatening medical conditions but he always has a smile on his face to cheer everyone up, a ray of shine. I am a positive thinker despite living in a difficult family environment, working hard to provide for my son and his future care. I am manage a portfolio of properties, do freelance inspections with the Care Quality Commission and build my handmade natural & organic skin care and soy wax candles on my own. Through sheer hard work and perseverance, my skin care business is now very successful, despite starting this at the age of 50. It's real hard work managing everything, as well as co-ordinating my son care (he has about 10 consultants) and cooking every day as my son has multiple food allergies but I love it. Also, I enjoy helping other mums, especially those who have children with disabilities to access services and benefits for their children. In terms of the inspections that I do, they tend to be children with mental health and/or disabilities such as Autism and Learning Difficulties, my specialism.
BERNADETTE McDONALD, director of BMD law "My name is Bernadette and I am a …… " For many years all that I wanted was to be a solicitor. I wanted to introduce myself as a solicitor. I came from a traditional working class background. My parents had not gone to University. My school careers team did not support my ‘lofty ambitions’ to be a solicitor. But I had spent years gazing longingly at the glamour and excitement of LA Law and I was determined. I dropped out of sixth form and enrolled in college taking a levels whilst working. I then applied for university but had to do so whilst working full time so my law degree took 4 years and post graduate degree 2 years. By the time I come to find a training contract I was a mature student but one with six years of legal experience with me. I secured a contract in Manchester and the usual two year contract to be able to qualify as a solicitor was shortened to just shy of 12 months. One qualified I quickly climbed the ranks and became head of department and deputized for the training partner in relation to the pastoral care and allocation of the firms 12 trainees. After 2 years I left to start my own firm in Wavertree. My ethos for the firm was always simple. To serve the local community in a way that at the time was quick unique – I removed the formality that is usually found with legal professionals and treated people as people. Secondly, and perhaps more importantly I strove to give opportunities to aspiring lawyers who did not have access either to training or work experience. I am very proud to say that my office has a revolving door of young people who have had their first taste of legal practice. I smile when I see how that first step has propelled them in their careers enabling them to obtain degrees, vocational qualifications and permanent positions. I was thus inspired to help support people in achieving their dreams in having their own business and my own premises have housed several new start companies who with the support of me as their inhouse solicitor have been able to take root and grow. This includes other lawyers, estate agents and mortgage brokers. In order to help more people achieve their dreams I undertook an MBA whilst continuing to run my own law firm. This led to my lecturing property law, commercial property law and land law in a university and private legal training company. I graduated with a MBA with distinction and a scholarship to research the current form of clinical legal education. I hope this enables me to help more aspiring lawyers in the future. As well as running a law firm I have also acted as vice chair of a PTA, member of Wavertree Conservation society, started and developed a local business networking group and supported local charities. I have also started a professional development training company to help support local business. When people ask me what my motivation is my answer is always simple – I want to help people become the best that the can and overcome any obstacles in doing so. I hope that my hard work and determination inspires my three children. When people now ask me who I am and what I do the answer isn’t quite as simple My name is Bernadette and I am a solicitor/business owner/mother/lecturer/ trainer/business development supporter/researcher …

CLAIRE HURST Therapist that .
JAY WHARDALE I have lived in Liverpool for almost 17 years, having moved from Birmingham. I was born in England, and I am of Bangladeshi descent. I did not complete my secondary school as I spent almost 3 years in Bangladesh being taught religious studies. I found myself struggling at school in all subjects when I returned to the UK at the age of 12 and I did not speak English fluently.
At 22 years old, I faced many obstacles and challenges in life and one that was unimaginable. As a young single mum, I faced life with hardship and with no family support I decided to pick myself up and handle life with all my strength. I bought my first home. I worked full time for the NHS as a lab assistant and then moved to work as an operating theatre support assistant including various other roles. Alongside my full time job I studied part time and completed my A Levels in maths, data handling and communication from the Open University. Few years later I passed my driving test, and this gave me a lot more independence and stability. Although, my life was very much restricted I completely focused on rebuilding my future. As I faced life alone as a single mother, I battled daily with my mental, physical, and emotional health. I then decided to invest in fitness training and change my diet. My aim was to reshape my body and feed my body the correct nutrients that it deserved. This helped me regain my confidence and I never felt so strong before in my life. I then became a lingerie model and enjoyed modelling for a short time before, I gave birth to my second child. Most recently in November 2021, I modelled for Liverpool fashion week and this gave my confidence the extra boost. I am currently a second year Human biology and Health student and often when I study evolution, I always ask myself ‘what is my purpose of life on earth’. I put this purpose down to my children, my world. I also work part time as a health research assistant. I hope to pursue my ultimate dream job as a health improvement practitioner once I compete my degree. I am a survivor of all battles. A highly caring individual who is not easily influenced by other. Make decisions based on needs and beliefs. A fiercely loving mother and somebody quietly, but with fire in her eyes sets goals and relentlessly pursues them with good humour and grace. The admiration of my homemaking skills such as my ability and passion for growing my own food in my allotment. Cultural and social capital is very important to me. My involvement and engagement in my community in meaningful and consistent participation in activities that support and improve upon social wellbeing equally as important. I turned my pain into power, and I hope I can encourage and inspire others to be just as brave because, If I can do it, I believe anybody can. I see myself as a true inspiration to many people, and I trust that I am that person who deserves the recognition of the positive impact I have on others.
DIONNE DA COSTA, Fashion designer, Bohemiannova Dee has always gone above and beyond for each of her clients. She's arrived at my door bearing seamoss when I was unwell, gone out of her way to message and make sure I'm okay, to check in. I know she does this for many other people. When you meet her she's just a radiant force of divine feminine and masculine energy. A woman who has dedicated her own life to spreading a message of health, wellness and peace. Her products are the highest quality, and in a market where overcharging is usually the case, she doesn't. In fact she undercharges, just so she can continue to be the light being she is and spread her message. She's just a walking smile and I'm so sure many others will testify to her good nature.
PHIL NOON, Evolving Mindset When Phil Noon found himself in the midst of his own mental health crisis, he was luckier than most - his brother Andrew was an experienced mental health nurse. But it wasn’t until Phil hit rock bottom, that he finally reached out for help. He said: “I had worked in senior leadership roles for many years but it got to a point where I couldn’t cope and my life spiralled out of control.” With the help of Andrew “pulling me though”, Phil came out of the other side of the darkest period of his life. And that experience has proved transformational for Phil and his brother as they are now reaching out to thousands of other people facing mental health challenges. in 2019 they launched Evolving Mindset, a non-profit mental health organisation that goes into companies and organisations, schools and the wider community to offer both support and education on mental health. A clear business strategy was developed which included the recruitment of two additional directors Lee Monaghan and Maureen Leatherbarrow Their goal is to help bring about a genuine culture change. As Phil puts it: “It all comes down to education. When I faced my problems initially I just did not have the information and knowledge I needed. We want to look at different ways to change the culture.” Phil spent many years in very traditional, very male environments, where admitting you had a mental health problem was unthinkable. Early in his adult life he was a professional football. He played for Exeter City under former Everton FC legend Alan Ball and Macclesfield Town where the manager was ex-Manchester United star Sammy McIlroy. Following his retirement from football he worked in industrial and warehousing sectors, rising to take on a number of senior and leadership roles. But while on the outside his career seemed to be on the up, on the inside Phil was crumbling. He explained: “At that point the idea that you would ask for help with mental health concerns was non-existent. It was all about ego and bravado. You didn’t ask for help for fear of being seen as weak. You just got on with it. “I had gone to my GP for help but I was just prescribed medication. We discovered there was a gap between primary care, such as GPs, and those secondary services such as CBT and other therapies where, even if you get a referral, the waiting list was very long. “In my case, and in the case of many other people, I needed more help than my GP could offer but was not deemed to have enough of a problem to meet the criteria for those secondary services. That is how Evolving Mindset came to be - we wanted to fill that gap.” Based in Knowsley, the business provides bespoke courses for employers, works with both teachers and young people in schools, and provides mental health support groups and educational workshops for people in the community.
MARIE MCCOURT I am the mother of Helen McCourt who was murdered by Ian Simms in February 1988. Despite being convicted on overwhelming forensic and circumstantial evidence he has continued to refuse to say where my daughter’s body is located.Following several years of searching with my family for Helen, I joined the group Support after Murder and Manslaughter Merseyside. I became a volunteer here supporting and advising families in a similar position and helping them through their personal loss. I delivered this support through group session, individual meetings, 24 Hour telephone helpline or home visits. With this contact I was able to assess the need of the beneficiaries and if we were not able to help them directly arrange contact with various agencies/organisation that we had built a relationship with.As the group developed we did presentations to these agencies including Coroners, Police Liaison Officers, Crown Prosecution and Probation Service. With a serving Officer we developed the first sessions for Liaison Officers, which did not exist at that time, and these are now part of the national training package. WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST ATTRIBUTE?Having become the mother of a murder victim I saw at first hand from my own experience, and with meeting numerous other families, the deficiencies in support and advice for victim’s families. With the assistance of other volunteers we regularly brought these to the notice of the agencies who over the years have improved the perspective of victims’ families and there is now a huge improvement in the help and recognition that they receive. I also used an opportunity to highlight these problems whenever I was in the media, because of the circumstances of Helens case, and also with the Government when I have met Ministers or being part of meetings that have fed into Government thinking and eventual change. I have led a campaign called Helens Law asking for change so that murderers who have applied for Parole but still refuse to say where their victims remains are should not be eligible for release until they do. This entailed an on line petition which gained over 600,000 supporters, meetings with Ministers, online enquiries for other families who are in the same situation, presentations and public events to raise awareness of the campaign. This campaign has had a positive outcome as the Government have accepted that there IS a need for the Law and it will be placed on the statute book in due course. My campaigning for Helen’s Law has illustrated that an ordinary mum can make a change in the law of the land. I started the campaign when Simms was due to be moved to an open prison and possible release. Even though there are guidelines for the Parole Board on release of these killers it was not in law that their refusal to reveal the location of victim’s remains and this was not right. During this I found over fifty other families whose loved ones bodies have not been found and with the increase of the efficiency in DNA evidence this number is increasing. I hope that when people see or hear me they realise that determination and a personal crusade to improve the rights of victim’s families that they can do something similar with continued determination, effort and publicising the need for change.
DAWN SMITH After a text book life of teenage romance, marriage, career as self employed beauty therapist, raising 2 kids and caring for my granddad in 2018 everything was turned upside down, Rather than things happening in 3’s I had 3 years of turmoil. My husband lost his job of 25 years, my parents who live abroad started with a long continuous list of illness that I tried to support from afar, and flying back and forth at the drop off a hat… heart attack, mouth cancer, falls leading to hip replacement to name a few, my granddad passed away aged 90 and then I was asked to become a guardian for a new born family member by social services. By the time covid was upon us in 2020 and the first lock down for me other than the stress of financial strain from not working I was actually glad of the rest, by then my husband was back in work, my daughter was through her GCSEs and my parents illnesses had calmed, unfortunately this time my business took a hit and once allowed back to work after lockdown 1 I had lost 40% of what I had built up over 25 years, I then broke my ankle and was forced off my feet for 4 months after that I took on 2 additional roles totally out of my comfort zone, working for a supermarket and a lunchtime supervisor in a primary school as well as trying to keep my existing clients happy, take my son to dance lessons and competitions. At the end of 2021 I was offered an opportunity to work in a local spa going back to my roots from when I started in my career as a beauty therapist. This has been a totally fresh start for me this year, I am undergoing updated training which I love, I’m working in a friendly, relaxed environment even though it’s fast paced between the guests. Although the last few years have been difficult, my children are grounded young humans, my husband has regained a job he loves and I am now beginning to sleep the night though. I truly believe when life throws you lemons you need to make lemonade (or slice it up and pop it in a g&t)

ANTHONY GRICE, small business owner (FIKA coffee, 08 Travel Direct, Mersey Boxing WCBI and charity fundraiser( raising over £100,000 for local charities) I’m blessed how my life has turned out.I run my businesses through hard work and dedication and always remain positive no matter what the situation you find yourself in. The glass is always half full.I try my best to make people smile and be positive about life. I regularly display quotes and daily thoughts about life on my shop messages boards to try make people smile coming to my shop or just walking past. Spread the love and good Karma and it will repay you in the long run. I’m not motivated by money, I’m just after a good life. The best things in life are free. The most happiest people I know don’t have much in life but they have each other and positive people in their circle of life. WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT? Having the life I have now. From growing up in Toxteth, my life wasn’t on the right track. I had many run ins with the law and a lot of my friends went to Jail to serve serious time behind the door or had been murdered. It was only a matter of time before I ended up as one of these statistics and had accepted a life of crime will be my future. I broke away from the circle and pursued a career in the RAF. This really grounded me and me taught me a lot about myself. From then to now i am blessed to have a wife who’s supported me along my journey and believes in what I set my mind to and also 2 amazing children, which I’m also blessed that I can give a better start to life and the things I couldn’t have when I was a child. I now have 5 businesses in which I have self funded through hard work and dedication I help change people’s lives through my charity boxing events.and also through my coffee shop Along with the fundraising I’m able to give people the self confidence and belief in themselves. There is no better feeling when someone comes to me and says that I’ve saved there life for what I’ve helped them do and put them in the right path and they know where they’re heading. I do this because am a believer in good Karma! You do good for others and good will repay you. I have worked in many pressure cooker jobs throughout my younger years, I thrive on high pressure situations. I can remember being in school and my English teacher telling me that I will be a failure in life. What a thing to say to child but it helped make me the person I am today
JOHN BURTON Inside Connections was formed in 2017 to provide services and support to businesses and education facilities, offering access to training leading to sustainable employment. As an ex criminal John turned his life around and helps others do the same. Since then they’ve helped thousands of people, with over 100 employers engaged. He says, “I was raised on a Liverpool council estate in the 1970s. The streets were riddled with drugs and crime in a deprived Britain at the time, particularly the north. We never had much growing up. The ones who had the nice clothes, watches and cars rom the area weren’t coming out of a good education in a well-earned job, that was unheard of. It was the drug dealers and criminals. In the environment I get up in there was only two choices. Educations wasn’t really an option, it was selling drugs and making money or take drugs and lose everything. Heroin was rife, I didn’t want that for me so I got into criminality at a young age, heroin being one of the things I wouldn’t sell. In 2017 I was released from prison after serving a second prison sentence for 6 out of 12 years for money laundering and the transportation of cannabis, cocaine and amphetamines worth millions, around the UK.The last part of my sentence I served 19 months as a category D prisoner in the Isle of Sheppey, which was a 540 mile round trip for a one hour visit for my family. Witnessing my young family struggle because of something I had done was a major factor for my rehabilitation and resettlement and I needed to do something about it. I set up a website and mobile app aimed at prisoners, their families, victims of crime, communities, key services and support partnerships to prevent offending and reoffending. Secondly I set up a Community Interest Company and trust fund aimed at offering supported care services for the most vulnerable in society. For example those exiting the prison system, care home or military systems and young offenders. To say that I am passionate about reform and rehabilitation is an understatement. I witnessed first hand the changes within the UK prison system; prisoners, prison officers and staff struggling under the weight of an ageing and antiquated criminal justice system. But also the families and victims struggling on the outside. My aim is to support the 45% of 16-18 year olds released from the care home system and who immediately go onto commit crimes and end up in prison. Prevention is better than cure. I designed the Inside Connections app to be totally outward looking, open minded and with a global reach. I put families and communities back at the heart of reform and rehabilitation through carefully considered -and delivered- support care programmes and housing, education, training and job opportunities. I believe that we need to support these individuals who want to grasp another chance at life. If I can change my life and help others for the better, by guiding the most vulnerable along a path that leads away from crime, then that must be a good thing.”
LEE SEDDON, fireman and founder of Boogiestorm I can say I may of inspired others with my beliefs. I always say follow your dreams and have goals. No matter what others say, or if people put you down, laugh at your ideas.. just carry on with your dream. You never know where they may take you. I have come from a very humble and turbulent background, I failed at many things growing up so I left home had joined the army at 16. This was my greatest challenge. I left my family, friends and home town. I was able to take my inner strength and fight through the unknown. I made new friends, I travelled the world, I went to several war zones. I became a much more confident, determined person.
I left the army 10 years later to return home and joined the fire service where I made more friends and helped within the local community. Ive been a firefighter for 17 years now. As much as I loved my service to the country & community I’ve always had the desire to work for myself in the entertainment industry. I’m a very creative person with a vivid imagination. I had zero experience in the entertainment industry but I had a dream. I was laughed at, mocked but I remained determined to achieve what I set out to do I had an idea to put a bunch of dancing’s stormtroopers on Britain’s Got Talent. This made people laugh even more. I contacted BGT told them my idea which they felt like it would be ideal for the show. I had 4 weeks to find a dance group, have a choreographed dance routine and build 6 stormtrooper costumes to appear in front of the judges on BGT. After working tirelessly day and night on a 2 minute routine we eventually appeared on the show. This was the life changing moment for me. Simon Cowell watched with true glee & happiness and gave us his golden buzzer. Since then we have traveled the world, performed in over 30 countries. We have been seen over 600 million times on YouTube, appeared on America’s Got Talent the Champions and received a second golden Buzzer of Simon Cowell. The only act to ever achieve that in the history of Got Talent. I love my work, it feels like my hobby. It’s something that I’m passionate about, making people laugh and smile. I love and live life everyday. I have a fabulous little boy who makes me work even harder & also makes me more determined to send out the message..... Follow your dreams, have goals, trust & have faith in yourself. It’s okay to fail because that’s what makes a true winner. Get back up and carry on. Don’t ever let anyone tell you you can’t do something.

MELISSA YOUNG, fashion designer I got into the industry when I was asked to bring my collection for the models to wear at the Liverpool Hair style Awards back in 2013. I built connections with photographers, models and other creatives within the industry that later opened up amazing opportunities that lead me to creating more collections that I took to several London fashion week shows as well as showcasing at local fashion shows and photo shoots. This boosted my presence within the fashion industry and those experiences and connection lead me to host my first charity fashion show in 2014 and this opened me up to bigger opportunities. I was scouted by recruiters for Paris fashion week, so myself and a team of 20 other creatives, that I had selected to join me for their various skills, travelled to exhibit my evening dress collection in Paris. From then I have worked as a bespoke fashion designer making one of pieces for clients and making seasonal collection that I use within fashion shows and photoshoots locally and abroad. At the time of launching my collection I was also pregnant with my son and had to fly alone to Germany for pioneering surgery to save his life while he was still in my womb. He survived but he needs additional care everyday
SHOONAGH BRICKLAND, owner of L'Olivetto I have always been that person who struggles with their weight. I’d eat and drink what I wonted when I wonted and I would alway pay the consequences by piling on the pounds. Running a restaurant is hard being around food all day everyday. Serving pastas pizzas & garlic bread is not the easiest. Nearly 2 years ago I decided that’s it enough is enough. I hated feeling tired, bloated and not very confident always hiding behind baggie clothes. I reached out to a PT Lucy that I’d heard and seen on social media some amazing results from. As well as training with her sister Holly and other groups Iv joined along the way That’s where it all began. I’m now training 10 times a week and on the best diet plan that suits me. After trying so many fab diets and not eating enough I’m now eating more than ever. Training 10 times a week does seem a lot I know but I feel amazing for it. I’m less tired I have loads of energy which is needed working 6 days a week 14hrs days some of the days is 100% needed. I get up at 5am most days ready to train for 6am. I post all my work outs on social media and keep people up to date with my transformation. I know this may get on some people’s nerves but for me it pushes me to do better and if I’m helping that one person who may struggle to find motivation find it then I’m happy. Iv lost near five stone now Iv not been silly and crashed dieted Iv done is sensibly & heathy. Changing my life style has impacted me in more ways than one. Iv met so many amazing inspirational people who I hope will be in my life for ever it’s played a massive part my mental heath so to everyone Iv met along my transformation journey I’ll forever be grateful for. Being married to a chef he also been a bonus as I’m hopeless on the kitchen he loves to get a bit a praise for my transformation also. This will always be apart of my lifestyle now I still have to work on confidence but I know that will come.

GEOFF MOLYNEUX, Shout Expo business development manager I am a really happy person, I get up in the morning and it's my favourite time of the day, I am always super happy and grateful for the day. I started my role with Shout Expo not knowing anyone in Liverpool and within three years I have become very well known, connecting businesses all over the north west. I love networking, I love meeting people and I love doing what I do. One lesson I learned was when I went to a Chamber of Commerce dinner once and was working the rom for contacts. There was a really young girl there and against my better judgement I thought it would be a waste of my time talking to her. It turns out she was the marketing manager of one of the biggest companies in Liverpool I was trying to target for business. We did speak as she approached me and we became great business colleagues. I learnt a valuable lesson that you should never judge anyone or discriminate anyone for their age. People are capable of everything they want to achieve.
HANNAH WALTON In December 2014, I left High School at 14 due to personal trauma. I was given no support by my school in the lead up to my GCSE exams, so I taught myself using revision books - achieving B, C, C, D. The whole experience, including the original trauma, had a huge impact on my mental health which basically left me scared to leave the house or talk to people for a year or two. In 2017, after just about passing my GCSEs and working part-time for a while, I decided to set up my own Social Media Marketing business at 17-years-old. I worked with local businesses to build up their social presence, and in just 6 months I made a profit of over £4,000. In 2019, I tried university - finally! - to study Law with Criminology as I have a spot in my heart for getting criminal justice. Unfortunately, within the first month, I got a severe kidney infection which severely impacted my mental health. My start to university was interrupted and so I made the decision to try again the following year. In 2020, obviously everything got affected by Covid-19. I didn't want to sit back and let everything affect me. I wanted to thrive and achieve something with my year. So I started volunteering with charities and organisations that support disadvantaged students, offering my time to produce and present presentations for schools and colleges on careers education, managing small businesses' social media to give them a boost during the pandemic, etc. I have made so many professional connections this year, I have been nominated for the Young Achiever Award 2020 - hosted by Sunshine Radio - and I have made a positive impact that I am extremely proud of. From going through trauma that made me want to end my own life to being successful enough to be nominated for an award for my achievements, I have a lot to be thankful for and can't wait to do even more in the future. I am now nearly 21-years-old, at the start of my career, and it's off to a great start.
AMBER ELLIS, Business Development Manager at Raiys During lockdown I created a networking group called Developed Together which now has 130+ people, to create a safe space for BDM’s / salespeople to have a safe space to talk openly, inspire and learn from one another and hosted weekly ideas hours to develop our skills. I’ve always been incredibly passionate about mental health and making other people feel good. I strongly believe in what you put out, is what you get back. For example, if I make someone smile, in return that makes me smile. During lockdown I also used my LinkedIn platform to try and help people remain positive and motivated through a difficult time. Recently starting my new role at Raiys, I feel very lucky to be able to work in the wellbeing space which aligns with my core values. I think in whatever you do, it’s important to be authentically you and to champion others to be themselves!

KIERAN FLANNAGAN I think that I have inspired others by the charity work I have done for local charities, as a personal trainer I am always looking for challenges to raise money and awareness for those that need it. Last year I chose to raise money for a charity who feed local children during school holidays , I ran an event called the fan dance series which is also my biggest challenge, the Route is famous by being used by the sas in their selection process it is a run over the Brecon Beacons mountain range, I decided to complete this in the night time running 13 miles over it which took me into early hours I also finished first then the following morning I ran 15 miles over it, it was the most difficult and painful thing I have done but knowing that it would help put meals out for children that’s what drove me to push myself to complete it. Recently I raised money for a local family who lost their mother during lockdown I helped raise this by doing 1000 burpees raising around 4000 and I also organised a virtual charity challenge during lockdown for woodlands hospice I organised 39 clients to run a collective 2400 miles the equivalent of Route 66 raising around 3000. I provided all my clients and followers with free online workouts during the lockdown to keep them an anyone else active and positive. Some of my clients I have helped them with mental health issues offering free training etc in order to improve their life. While doing all these things I have had to take my self out of my own comfort zones speaking in front of people on camera etc which is an achievement for me also. I love all my family friends an clients I love that I have a job that enables me to help people and to bring something positive into peoples lives.
